Types of Bonds

Whatever the charge or the amount, we have the experience and surety backing to secure release. Explore the bonds we handle.

Bail can take many forms depending on the charges, the court, and the defendant’s circumstances. Below is a plain-language guide to each type of bond — and if you’re unsure which applies to your situation, just call. An agent will walk you through it.

Surety Bond

The most common bail bond. A licensed bail agent pledges the full bail amount to the court on the defendant’s behalf in exchange for a regulated premium. If the defendant appears at all required court dates, the obligation is satisfied.

Cash Bond

The full bail amount is paid in cash to the court up front. It is generally refunded after the case concludes, minus any court fees. When paying the full amount isn’t feasible, we can discuss a surety bond instead.

Property Bond

Real estate is pledged as collateral to secure the bail amount. If the defendant fails to appear, the property may be subject to forfeiture. We guide co-signers carefully through valuation and documentation.

Own Recognizance (OR)

A release granted on the defendant’s written promise to appear — no payment required. The court decides eligibility based on factors like ties to the community and the nature of the charges.

Citation Release

Also called a “cite out.” For minor offenses, an officer may issue a citation requiring a court appearance without a full booking. We help ensure nothing is missed afterward.

Failure to Appear (FTA)

If a court date is missed, a warrant and forfeiture can follow. We act quickly to address FTAs and help get the case back on track before matters escalate.

Unsecured Bail

The defendant is released without paying up front but owes the bail amount if they fail to appear. No collateral is posted at release — the obligation is a promise to pay.

Secured Bail

Requires collateral — cash, property, or a surety bond — to guarantee the defendant’s release, creating real financial consequences for missing court dates.

Common Question

What Does a Bond Cost?

In North Carolina, a bail agent’s premium is set as a regulated percentage of the total bail amount. The exact cost depends on the bond, the charges, and your circumstances. We always explain the premium and any collateral requirements before you sign — with no hidden fees. Ask us for a clear quote when you call.
